Here I am, entering week four of f/a training. The weeks are going by faster than they had originally during the initial first week.
It has taken some time to notice, but there is actually barbed wire here at our training complex. Yes, perhaps not unusual for a company that requires you to wear a security badge at all times. But, why is the barbed wire facing inwards, not outwards? Do they not want us to escape?
That has certainly been the joke among us trainees...
Although it has only been four weeks of first stepping foot here, it definitely feels as if I have been here longer. I know I'm not the only one who feels as such.
I know I haven't been so diligent with updating this lately, but I've been very exhausted. Here's a recap of some of the things that have happened thus far:
- I went on my first training flight to Newark, New Jersey. I was a little nervous, but helped serve pre-departure drinks in first class and myself and another classmate served the entire economy cabin.
- Been to the airport hanger twice now. We had widebody and narrowbody familiarization - where we got to go on the different planes and well, become familiar with them.
- Received my Chinese Visa. It is now in my passport and valid for two years. Yippie!
- Have most of uniform items. Got them last week - just waiting for the blazers and the pants to be altered.
- Passed two quizzes, earning 100% on both.
- Passed my PA & Demo (learning how to make the safety announcements and demonstrate the exits, oxygen, life vests) exam with a 100%
- Learn more about our flight attendant bible, our manual - and how to look up and find information
I have also had a little bit of time to get out and explore wonderful Chicago. I really do love this city; there is so much to do here. I have seen a couple of indie flicks. One being the Darjeeling Limited and Into the Wild, which I just watched yesterday. I even had the opportunity to catch the tail end of the international film festival, viewing a Hungarian film.
A classmate and I last weekended also caught the tail end of Chicago's fashion week, watching the final show, "The Allure of Couture" for free - when tickets were $75 bucks. Quite a treat. :c)
What's going on this week? Emergency procedures training. Today started week four - and that means early mornings. We get to wake up at 5 AM - catch the 6 AM bus to go to the airport hanger/offices...and have class until 3 PM - being why I have a little bit of time to blog. I am going to be learning how to use the AED, become CPR certified, the evacuation commands, etc. It's going to be quite a busy week and a half. Next Wednesday, Halloween, we have four tests back to back. That should be a fun day...
and after? Our second training flight, this time in full uniform for the first time! Very exciting! I should be picking up the whole altered pieces this Thursday.
Anything else? I am enjoying my time here. It really has been a lot of work - between class (staying awake, being on-time, or well early [because on-time is considered late here] getting enough sleep at night, and trying to find the time to do readings, homework, and socializing with the other classmates.
I have really come to enjoy my time with some of these people and cannot wait to be working with them up in the air.
Less than a month to go!
